Janet Arms

Flute

Janet Arms has for the past 16 years been a member of the New York City Opera orchestra, where she plays assistant principal flute and piccolo. She has also performed and recorded with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, as guest principal flutist with the St. Louis Symphony in the US and throughout Europe, played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston, at Tanglewood, and on tour, and has made solo appearances in the States and abroad with the New York Chamber Soloists. She has a decade long association with the Bard Festival Orchestra and the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard, and is a former member of the San Francisco Ballet orchestra. Ms. Arms now makes her home in NY, where she is active in commercial recording; recent chamber music activities include performances with musicians of the NYC Opera at Lincoln Center, as a guest artist with the Eastern Shore Chamber Music Festival in St. Michaels, Maryland, and in recital with fellow faculty members at the Symphony and Opera Academy of the Pacific in Powell River, BC. A prizewinner in both the NY Flute Club competition and the Concert Artists International competition, Ms. Arms made her recital debut at Carnegie Hall while completing her Masters degree at Juilliard, and has been an adjudicator and guest master class artist at NY Flute Club events. Ms. Arms received her Bachelors degree from The Hartt School, where she is now a member of the flute faculty.
