Phillip Bush Piano Phillip Bush is an Assistant Professor in the Piano Department of the University of Michigan School of Music. As a national and international performing artist, his repertoire ranges from the 16th century to the 21st. Professor Bush made his New York recital debut in 1984 at the Metropolitan Museum, and in 2001 made his Carnegie Hall concerto debut with the London Sinfonietta. He has also appeared as soloist with the Houston Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, and Osaka Century Orchestra, among others. He has performed and recorded with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, appears frequently on New York’s Bargemusic Series, and performs often at chamber music festivals in the U.S. and abroad, including the Grand Canyon Music Festival, Strings in the Mountains (Colorado), Music at Blair Atholl (Scotland), the St. Barthelemy Music Festival, Chateau D’Ainay (France), Sitka Festival (Alaska), Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, Cape May Music Festival, Newport Music Festival, and many others. In the 1990’s Mr. Bush appeared in over 200 concerts with the piano quartet “Typhoon” in seventeen concert tours, recording five CD’s with the group for Epic/Sony, all of which reached #1 on the Japanese classical charts. A fierce advocate of new music, Mr. Bush appears often as guest artist with many of the best-known contemporary music ensembles in the U.S., and since 1996 has been a regular member of the Milwaukee-based group, Present Music. His discography as soloist, chamber music, and new music performer currently includes over twenty-five discs, on labels such as Elektra/Nonesuch, Sony Classical, New World, CRI, Virgin Classics, Argo, and Koch International.] Professor Bush is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he studied with Leon Fleisher, and completed his graduate studies at the Banff Centre School of Fine Arts. |
